10 Reasons Heirs is Better than Before: What I’m Watching Wednesday

It’s been a great week for drama watching. The episodes that I’ve seen have all been highly enjoyable. What a nice surprise!

This What I’m Watching Wednesday will focus in on the newest Heirs episodes. I also started watching Pretty Man and I’m really enjoying it thus far. You can check out my review here!

On a side note, it didn’t look like I was going to get this done for Wednesday but a strike of bad luck worked out well for my blog. I’m traveling with my family for Thanksgiving and while on our 5 hour road trip we got a flat tire! Oh no! So now we are waiting at a McDonalds for the tow truck to come help us out. At least the extra time gave me a chance to finish this up… Gotta look on the bright side!

Watched: Heirs Episodes 12-14

So much goodness in these episodes! I’m so happy with the direction that the show is heading. I don’t want to jinx it, but the show has taken really stepped up its game!

Why is it better? Here are my 10 reasons:

 1. Kim Tan and Eun Sang’s relationship is finally believable.

Screen Shot 2013-11-25 at 6.53.17 PM

They hug, they talk, they hold hands, they kiss. You can tell they actually care about each other. Kim Tan is especially cute with his teasing and playfulness towards Eun Sang. A cheesy Kim Tan is the best kind of Kim Tan.

I’m also really liking the creative forms of skinship that the writers are coming up with. Such as:

The donut kiss

So sweet and unexpected! I’m a sucker for adorable Kim Tan.

Kim Tan’s leg locking strategy

Leg Lock

There’s also hand holding,

Handholding

heartfelt hugging,

back hugging,

Back Hug

and even hitting.

Slap

Heirs almost has it all! I’m still waiting for a full on, believable kiss, but based on these recent examples, I’m very hopeful.

Also, has there been a piggyback ride in Heirs? The show may still be missing that essential form of skinship.

2. Young Do’s story arc is heartbreaking.

See Someone

I know Eun Sang has no interest in him, but my heart keeps being tugged as he tries hard to win her over. His failed attempts keep me more than interested in whatever scheme he will next have up his sleeve. What will his fate be? Eun Sang may have officially rejected him, but I can guarantee he won’t back down quietly. What will this dashing bad boy do to convince his first love to love him in return? I’m certainly glued to the screen to find out!

Young Do Sad

Some of the Young Do’s line are so heartbreaking that I don’t quite know how to react. If I’m going to cry while watching Heirs, I’m 90% certain it will be because of Young Do.

Young Do, I feel for youuuuu!

3. Bo Na and Chan Young are beyond adorable.

I’m glad that they have resolved their issues. Their fight was super cute, but they are best when they are together.

4. Kim Tan and his brother have some bromance!

BrothersI’m glad we are getting more brotherly interaction. These two have so many issues to resolve and I hope this is the first step toward Kim Won better understanding the lost puppy known as Kim Tan.

Brothers HotelSo much awkward tension…

5. Kim Tan stands up for his mother and owns up to his birth secret.

(at least to Rachel and her mother).

This is a step in the right direction. Both Kim Tan and Eun Sang are realizing that they want to break away from the web of lies that entangle their lives. One thing I’m really grateful for is that (as far as we know) Kim Tan and Eun Sang know all of each other’s secrets. They can support each other as they go about tackling their respective obstacles.

6. The rivalry between Kim Tan and Young Do is rapidly developing.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 10.56.03 PM

This rivalry walks a thin line with bromance. I can only hope bromance will come to dominate toward the end. Is it too much for me to want a rekindled friendship between these two?

While we wait for their bromance to fully develop, their bickering can be fun to watch. For instance:

Really, Young Do? You drew a picture to refuse Kim Tan entry into the hotel?

Little did you know that it was a gift to Tan to have to stay with his brother!

They have also have had a fair share of intense moments.

I thought for sure Kim Tan was going to hit Young Do. Thank god Eun Sang was there to stop him. We can’t have Young Do getting too beat up!

7. No one is supporting Rachel’s tricks.

Rachel 1

It’s refreshing to see that the“bitch” character is not the center of the drama’s universe. Even though Rachel pulled some low moves in the past two episodes, the main cast of characters (even Young Do!) did their best to put her back in her place. Ironic, right? Her intention was to embarrass Eun Sang, but she ended up embarrassing herself.

Ahhhhhhh burn! I love that line (even if I’m not sure if it really means anything).

8. Hyo Shin’s worrisome plot line.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 11.52.04 AM

We got a better glimpse at some of the struggles Hyo Shin is experiencing. His mother is obsessed with getting him into the top college with the top test score. I really, really, really, really hope he doesn’t follow through on his thoughts of suicide. I’m more than a little concerned.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 11.53.53 AM

If Young Do doesn’t make me cry, I’m sure Hyo Shin will at one point or another.

9. Eun Sang finally confesses that she isn’t from New Money.

Eun Sang Stand Up

I’m so glad to see her stop lying to her classmates. It’s always nice when the heroine has a backbone.

10. THIS SCENE.

Final Kiss Heirs

Dear writer, in case you were wondering:

THIS SCENE 1

Untying the apron= GENUIS

THIS SCENE 2

Untying Eun Sang’s hair= SUPER CUTE

THIS SCENE Kiss

Forehead kissing= ADORABLE BEYOND WORDS

In Conclusion

I can’t wait for the new episodes this week! I’m optimistic that the show will continue to improve. The drama may have started out mediocre and rather unremarkable, but I think the characters are finally coming into their own skin. The long, pining stares have significantly dropped and cuteness is on the rise.

What are your thoughts about Heirs? Do you agree that the drama has taken a turn for the better?

Please let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!

  1. AHHA! I knew you would see it the same way I did on EVERYTHING! I told you it finally got good 😛 And yeah, YD is killing me, and in ep 15 it gets worse. And I LOVED the apron thing… seriously, I’ll wear an apron every minute of every day if I could have LMH take it off like that just once! LOL
