I just finished watching High School King of Savvy episodes 1-6 and I must say that I am loving it! Seo In Guk continues to steal my heart and I find the premise and execution fun and refreshing. I haven’t enjoyed a show this much in a long time and I can’t wait for more!
This show revolves around a high school student named Min Suk who must pretend to be his older brother who works as a director at a large real estate company. Min Suk is suddenly forced to navigate the corporate world while at the same time balancing his normal high school life. This of course provides for some excellent fish out of water scenarios and the show certainly doesn’t disappoint with its comedic timing.
Here Are 10 Reasons Why You Should Check Out This Show!
1. Seo In Guk (need I say more?)
Watching Min Suk pretend to be his brother Hyung Suk is rather hilarious, especially since Seo In Guk is doing such a fabulous job in the role. He is able to pull off both the immature high school student and confident business man in a way that is comical, yet still convincing. Min Suk has a lot to learn about being an adult and I’m excited to watch Seo In Guk portray this gradual maturity.
2. Min Suk and Soo Young’s Bickering Friendship
These two make a great pair. After a rough start filled with teasing and fighting, they’ve come to support each other as coworkers, allies, and friends. Min Suk’s heart is in the right place and I am excited to watch these two grow closer.
3. Min Suk and Director Yoo’s Work Rivalry
Talk about some great frenemy chemistry. They are always butting heads, both in work and now in love. While Hyung Suk and Director Yoo Jin Woo would be on the same level, Min Suk struggles to keep up with his brother’s equal. Business politics and back stabbing are uncharted territory for Min Suk and Jin Woo poses many additional challenges for our high school aged hero.
4. Hot Tempered Love Rivalry
The love triangle of the show is just starting to develop, but Min Suk’s jealous outrage is already fun to watch. Jin Woo has quite the cold, disinterested demeanor, but I think he’ll start to thaw out with each passing episode. Soo Young may just be quirky enough to catch his attention, although I’m sure Min Suk won’t be sitting on the sidelines!
5. The Female Lead Soo Young is a Hot Mess
I admit, the first episode was a bit painful to watch, mostly because of Soo Young’s cringeworthy mistakes and failed love confession. However, as the show goes on, I find myself drawn more and more into her endearing character. She may be a mess, but her dedication to her job and family just makes me what to cheer her on.
6. The Characters Have Heart
I’m continuously surprised by the heartwarming moments that are placed throughout each episode. These characters are not perfect, but I love that their hearts are in the right place (Jin Woo may be the exception to this, at least for now). For instance, Min Suk may be hot tempered, but he also strives to help those he cares about. Soo Young is rather clueless, but she is also 100% dedicated to her job and her family. Watching High School King of Savvy puts me in a great mood and I think the great characterization is a big part of this show’s magic.
7. High School Kids Have a Company Credit Card
What’s not to like about kids pretending to be adults? Once his friends figure out what he’s up to, Min Suk decides to appease them and show off his newfound power. They go on shopping sprees, visit a hostess bar, and even eat out with Min Suk’s female coworkers. It’s quite entertaining to watch these friends play around in the adult world!
8. Min Suk’s Interactions with his Grandfather
While this show mostly takes place at the office, family also holds a very special role. Min Suk’s grandfather has dementia as well as an eating problem, both of which get him constantly into trouble. Regardless, Min Suk always makes time to play with his grandfather and, if needed, he’ll drop everything to go look for his lost relative. Their time together always brings a smile to my face.
9. Watching Min Suk Try to Balance Work and School
Min Suks takes on a lot of different roles with his new undercover position. Needless to say, he’s usually exhausted. Between school, work, and hockey this kid is busy and it’s great fun watching him juggle his many responsibilities!
10. It’s Funny!
The drama does a great job playing up the comedic element of Min Suk’s double life. For example, I love how Min Suks checks in at school and then instantly jumps out the window while his friends put a dummy to take his place. I know it can’t go on forever, but I really enjoy the delicate balance that has been created!
Overall, this is a great show with an excellent cast and wonderful characters.
If you’re looking for a new drama, I definitely recommend High School King of Savvy. You won’t regret it!
