What I’m Thankful for in Korean Entertainment

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is Thanksgiving in the United States and I wanted to celebrate with a “What I’m Thankful For” post. While the items on my list vary in degrees of importance, they all bring joy into my life.

T.O.P’s Cheekbones

TOP Snake

There are many things about T.O.P to be thankful for. His deep, sexy voice, his shy, yet playful nature, his expressive eyebrows, and of course his beautiful stature, but if I have to pick a favorite attribute, I’m going to go with his cheekbones.

Jang Keun Suk’s LINE Updates

JKS Line Stickers

This guy is equal parts ridiculous and hilarious. You never quite know what he will post on social media, but you can guarantee it will be good! I don’t know of another Asian celebrity that updates in same way. It feels as if JKS is actually sharing his crazy life with his fans. Who else would recreate LINE stickers for our entertainment?!

From pig statues, corn eating, and inside drama info, JKS posts it all! And the best part? It’s usually in English! Even if he didn’t post frequently, just the fact it’s in English makes me feel that much more in the loop.

I know Jang Keun Suk has pretty good English, but I wonder if he gets help… Regardless, if you don’t follow him already, what are you waiting for?! You won’t regret it! Where else will you see a Korean idol being his more honest, crazy self?

Rain’s Adorable Smile

Need I say more? I’m so excited to see this smile in the future when Rain stars in this new Hollywood project!

Never Running Out of Entertainment

Screen Shot 2013-11-28 at 11.51.04 AM

This wonderful Korea-centric world has almost endless possibilities. There’s just so much goodness; years and years of quality dramas just waiting for me to watch. Even better, there are always new shows to be seen. The turn around rate is much quicker than in the US and the news is exciting to follow.

Next Episode

Since the Korean celebrity world is not huge, everything is pretty well connected. Chances are if you want to see two random celebs interact in a project/commercial/award show it will probably happen at some point. Pretty cool!

And when I’m not watching dramas, I always have K-pop to keep me company.

I’ve never been bored since entering this world.

Sleep deprived, yes, but never bored.

G-Dragon’s Black Fuzzy Hat- It’s everywhere!

Seriously, how can he wear this thing so much? It’s quite the world traveler. Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau. Those are just the places I can think of off the top of my head. Doesn’t it ever get dirty? Maybe there is more than one. Hmmmmm…

I didn’t like it at first, but it’s really grown on me. I thankful I can play the game “where in the world is GD’s fuzzy hat?”

Lee Jong Suk’s Cuteness

Cute- LargeHis kid. HOW CAN HE BE SO CUTE?

Bonus Points: I got to meet Lee Jong Suk earlier this year while I was in Taiwan!! I still can’t believe I was able to witness his adorableness in person. It was just before I Hear Your Voice aired so he wasn’t super famous just yet. I really lucked out!

Like these pictures? They were from the fan meeting I went to!

Bromance

Bromance is really on the upswing in the Korean entertainment world. I am thankful to be able to witness it in both k-dramas and in the real lives of celebrities. Two of my favorite bromance relationships are:

Lee Jong Suk and Kim Woo Bin

Bromance- LJS and KWB

You can probably already tell that I really like these actors. Put them together and they make the perfect pair! I’m so grateful they are friends in life and in dramaland.

GD & Taeyang

 Best friends forever.

We Got Married: Global Edition

We Got Married- Poster

I LOVE this show. It’s certainly the best variety show I’ve watched all year. Where else would you see 2pm’s Taecyeon look like he’s about to murder someone and FT Island’s Hongki showing off his nail art? Add in Mina’s crazy eyes and Gui Gui’s spectacular Engrish and you have the making for an amazing show.

There’s just so much greatness compacted into this tiny show. I was kept laughing the entire time!

And Finally: The Opportunity to Learn About Korea

Korean CultureWatching K-dramas and listening to K-pop music has exposed me to a whole new world. I’m so thankful that I can appreciate another culture through these forms of entertainment. I’ve even made some great friends because of our shared love.

This past year has been so wonderful. I’ve gotten to see many of my favorite Korean celebrities while living in Taiwan and I even took a vacation to Korea! I’m so grateful for all of these opportunities.

Korea, I’m thankful to be your friend!

What are you thankful for in the Korean entertainment world? Let me know in the comment section below!

  1. I didn’t know that about Jang Geun Suk’s Line posts! That’s hysterical. And surprisingly wacky too for a K-celeb. I did not expect that from him. And yes, I’m thankful for Rain too, and that he’s back in fine form–in all senses of the word!

  2. Ok, I didn’t even know what Line was, but it’s now installed on my phone and computer just to follow JGS because he’s too damn cute! I love his personality so much! Loved your post, and I actually think the thing I’m most grateful for about Korean Entertainment is the wonderful world you get to step into, either by music or show. I’ve enjoyed it for the past year and only look forward to the next year!

    • I spent a year teaching English in Taiwan. I had a wonderful time and I definitely enjoyed the added bonus of experiencing the Hallyu wave first hand! Thank you so much for reading my blog 🙂
